Work-optional lifestyle is born
I’ve worked in the financial services industry for almost 40 years, and I’ve experienced more than my fair share of successes and challenges.
Both of my parents were in a position where they could have retired early. Devastatingly, they both passed away before they got into retirement, aged 64 and 63 and within 12 weeks of each other.
I decided from there that I wasn’t going to let any of my clients get into that position. I was going to show people that it was possible to achieve financial freedom and enjoy their lives before it was too late. So I got into Lifestlye Financial Planning in 2013 and started building up my reputation in this sector.
From using content to enhance my reputation
Selling my business for a seven figure sum in 2019 was the main catalyst for me wanting, and having the resources to be able to make a difference in the world. A lot of my success has come down to setting and achieving goals, and I wanted to help others achieve their goals too.
That’s where Write Business Results came in. I knew the CEO and founder, Georgia, from our Strategic Coach® days, and got in touch to see how she could help.
It was crazy how fast the ideas started flowing and the plans were put in place!
The process that Georgia and the team at WBR put together makes my job considerably easier. The book was born out of regular conversations about my thoughts and ideas – I had a number of conversations with the team and then next thing I know, we’ve created a book! It was madness!
If it was down to me, a book would never have happened – let alone all the content that came with it.
Making content creation easy
I enjoy talking to people and I’m good at making them feel comfortable enough to share their insights.
But turning it into content and getting it out into the world is too tedious for me. Handing it over to the experts and letting them get on with it ensures I consistently produce and share content that resonates with my audience.
The best part is that the content has me in it. I can hear my own voice in it clear as day, and other people can too. I’ve had people that haven’t seen me for years contact me and say, “Oh my God, I read your book and it was as if you were in the room with me!”
The WBR team are able to deliver me to the world in a way there’s no chance I would have been able to do myself.
Expanding on the book with a podcast
We decided the best way to keep sharing my knowledge alongside the book would be with a podcast. Fast forward to 2023 and we have produced two seasons, released over 120 episodes and had nearly 10,000 downloads!
The madness is that along the way you’re not just creating a podcast, you’re actually repurposing and creating more content than you could possibly believe. For example, we have turned the podcasts into blogs for the website, and social posts to increase brand awareness.
And the best part is that I’ve found a side of business I really enjoy. Who wouldn’t enjoy having a chat with somebody on a podcast, finding out their story, picking their brains, and then having a team of experts turn it into really great content that’s going to help other people?
Flying around the world
At the start of the process I said I wanted to increase my speaking opportunities overseas and help more people. It’s safe to say we are well on the way to achieving that. I can see loads more speaking opportunities happening because of the work I’ve done with WBR – I’ve been fortunate enough to speak in New Zealand and Australia, and I can see those opportunities and experiences being repeated before too long!
Since working with the WBR team I know that “Doug Bennett” has a much greater presence in the virtual world than ever before.
I see a consistent future with the WBR team. The process is so easy – I just turn up, I do my bit, and it ends up on the web.
I have to say, Write Business Results do make me look considerably more clever than I am!
